This is one of the most enigmatic photos I have ever taken. The location is The Tarn in Acadia National Park, Maine. Although it is within the boundaries of the park, it located on Us Rt 3 about 2.5 miles south of Bar Harbor. This photo was taken near sunset on June 22,2016. Here is the info:
Photographer’s Trail Notes (https://photographerstrailnotes.com/the-tarn-photographers-guide) has this description of the Tarn: “The Tarn is probably one of Acadia’s more under-appreciated ponds due to its smaller stature. Many people overlook it because it’s not as well-known as some of Acadia’s larger bodies of water, such as Jordan Pond, Long Pond, and Eagle Lake. Yet, I believe it is one of its most picturesque. If you arrive at the right time, when the sun is providing picturesque reflections, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view and likely agree with my assessment.” When you capture the light at its best, there is an almost iridescent quality to the scene. As you can see above, the Lilly pads seem to float in midair because the water is so perfectly clear. The purple Aurora Borealis like shimmering in the photo is not the result of some post production trickery—it is just natural to the scene. Totally different image in Autumn.
