Moraine Lake on the Icefield Parkway in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada is a popular destination for many American and Canadian tourists. In fact, it is so popular in the summer that they frequently close access to the lake by 9:00am. If you are turned away and try to walk in, you have a hilly 7 mile trek and might rum across a black bear beside the road (I have a photo of a black bear very close to that road). If you stay at the lodge you can go in and out as much as you want. The photo on the left was taken on “The Rock Pile” where you are able to get beautiful reflections on the lake. There is a trail you can walk on the shore, or you can rent a canoe and paddle around on the lake. Needless to say, the water is too cold for swimming, even in the middle of summer. The beauty is well worth the trip.
