There are several things I like about this photo. One is the movement in the water—just enough to make it dynamic, but not so much that it dominates the scene. Another is the number of people on the pier going out to the lighthouse, making the sunset event a communal experience. This is pretty common for sunsets over Lake Michigan (we live about 10 miles from this place). I also was glad for the grass in the foreground and the sky’s colorful palette as the sun dips below the horizon. Also notice the top of the skywalk on top of the pier is perfectly aligned with the horizon, and note the patch of sand in the foreground. As with Photo Story 23, this, to me, is a much more interesting photo in a 3 to 1 ratio than the 3 to 2 ratio of the original photo.
