This photo was taken in February of 2014, one of the top 10 coldest winters in Michigan history. While Lake Michigan has never frozen completely over, 2014 was one of those winters when the lake did freeze to the horizon where this photo was taken. This sunset photo is at Silver Beach in St. Joseph, MI. Two teenagers (I think I can correctly surmise their age because of the folly involved in going out on a frozen lake minutes before dark) are trying to walk in the dying light over the sharp-edged ice in sub-zero temperatures, and my guess is they will have a harrowing story to tell, if they survive their adventure. I, not being a teenager, got back into my car after taking this single photo, turned on the heat to the max, and drove slowly home.
