Interesting story for this photo. We were traveling out west, at this point on US 87 southeast of Great Falls, Montana, near Malmstrom Air Force Base. Jan, as she has done many times, said that there was a great photo op on the left, so I stopped to get a snapshot of this great Americana iconic scene (“golden waves of grain…”). The mountains in the background and clouds in the sky complete the scene. While I was out in the field a helicopter swooped low over me:
With the door open and an armed airman at the opening. Malmstrom is a nuclear missile base and helicopters are constantly circling to see if anyone is attempting to invade the base. They were not happy for me to take a photo of the copter either, banking and returning for an even closer look. So, I had to be satisfied with the photo of the farm and make a quick exit. I am glad that is the end of this photo story!
